I entered the above event solo this year for a challenge to myself and I thought I was ready too. we set off from the start on a 2km run to collect our bikes and then set off riding, as I did this I damaged a muscle in my back yes just by running ! So as I got on my bike I knew the damage had been done so I rode and thought it may pass, but several laps into the event it was taking it's toll, I rode for 11 hours completing 12 laps but the pain was too much. I was leading the Vets solo class at the time so it was a huge disapointment when I had to stop. maybe next year ?

This race was a cat 3/4 on a closed circuit at Tockwith aerodrome near Wetherby, the race stated out steady with a few early breaks but the breaks kept getting pulled back so I just sat mid pack waiting for a development. 4 laps to go I moved to the top quarter to watch any breaks and just to see what the peloton mood was, 2 laps to go I went to the front with Hendry and Armistead on my wheel, we increased the pace and started to string out the group and things were going to plan. The last lap caused a little panic as we were pulling away so they pulled us back which meant a fast left hand corner sprint to the line. We all made it safely through the corner and then it was a mass sprint. I carried good speed out of the corner and managed to hold on for 4th.

Tuesday was Tockwith closed circuit cat 3/4 road race which started out at a steady pace, then one or two riders tried to have breakaway attempts so the pace quicked. with 8 laps to go I was feeling tired after a long week but I rode srong for my top 10 place, only a few points off cat 2 now.

Tockwith rd 3 & Huddersfield Sunday road club
Tuesday was the venue for the last Tockwith circuit race this season held on the aerodrome near Wetherby. The race started off at a quick pace but then slowly came back together as it was 25 laps long. I rode at the front of the pack most of the evening with fellow team mates helping Ady Rudd to stay away until the last lap, a great team effort by all I just missed out of the sprint due to losing a line.
Huddersfield Sunday road race was ridden in the strongest wind this summer, with a rolling course the riders began to drop out one by one, I had to work hard for a lap to fight my way back into the pack but job well done finished in the main sprint group with Ady & Billy.
